LOCATION OF SOLISHTA VILLAGE AND THE RED DOORS HOUSE

There are 3 routes from Sofia City to Solishta village:

The shortest route is through Krichim and Devin. At the highway, take the turn for Pazardjik, and then follow through villages Ognyanovo, Isperihovo, Kozarsko, and get to Krichim. The road through the mountains offers unique landscapes, because it winds around several dam lakes. It is mostly used by the local population. The road is narrow, and traffic is hindered by construction work on a new dam wall. However, we recommend this route, if you prefer to turn the time you spend in your car into a sight-seeing tour. Many travellers compare the landscapes they see when coming into the Rhodopes to scenes from Lord of the Rings. On the road between Krichim and Mihalkovo you will find two nice places for a rest with a wonderful view: the restaurant "Kazanova" (romantic style and modern cuisine) and the complex "Chilingira" (folk-style).

The route tourists use the most is through Assenovgrad – Chepelare – Pamporovo. The road is wider and in a better condition. If you take this road, we would recommend that you make a stop at the Bachkovski Manastir (Bachkovo Monastery), where you may find several restaurants, or at "Sinia han" (The Blue Inn) – a restaurant, located approximately halfway on your trip through the mountain, 27 kilometres away from Assenovgrad.
We would suggest taking the road through Krichim on your way here, and then taking the road through Assenovgrad on your way back.

If you are coming from Western Bulgaria, you will probably pass through Dospat. The road is safe, but at places the asphalt is in a poor condition. This road takes you through a lot of villages and shows you a different, colourful Bulgaria. The place for a rest with the best view in Dospat is the complex called "Tihiat kut" ("The Quiet Nook"), right above the dam lake. You can also have lunch at the "Havana" restaurant in Borino village, which you will see by the road.
